Salon Canning - Guillermo Monteleone Tango Photomontage Mural Is Coming Down
(photographer unknown)
Photographer Guillermo Monteleone: [click for the entire mural]
Very sad news that Salon Canning has apparently decided to take down photographer Monteleone Tango's mural. That mural, for me, *is* Salon Canning. Post by [Guillermo] Monteleone Tango:
"Los administradores del Salon Canning han decidido unilateralmente bajar el mural Milonga que desde 2006 ha representado a la sala. Quiero dejar claro que no he sido yo, que no he sido consultado y que no autorice la manipulacion de la obra de mi autoria y propiedad. La semana pasada solo he recibido un pedido de retirar la muestra del pasillo dado el interes de alquilar el espacio como galeria de arte. Accion que lleve adelante el martes 15 como fue de publico conocimiento.
Salon Canning managers have unilaterally decided to take down the Milonga mural that has represented the hall since 2006. I want to make it clear that it wasn't me, that I wasn't consulted and that I don't allow the manipulation of the work of my authorship and property. Last week I only received a request to remove the sample hallway given the interest in renting the space as an art gallery. Action that goes ahead on Tuesday 15th as it was public knowledge. I don't know the motives that led them to such behaviors. "
He uploads wonderful images to his Facebook profile, mostly Salon Canning/Milonga Parakultural...

Heather & Alex :: Aspen
I'm going through photos for the past year or so. I have so many that I haven't even been able to look at. Here's one of me dancing with my teacher Heather in Aspen back in December - at the Red Brick. Photos of me dancing are very rare, because I'm always behind the camera obviously. My friend Jeff grabbed my camera and started shooting.

Atlanta Tango Festival :: Photos

"The Shoe Shot" by Miles of TangoBliss
I brought my cameras and gear, but didn't take any photos to speak of. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to shoot, and I'm usually disappointed with the low-light results. I don't like to shoot with a flash - especially at a milonga. The festival organizers prohibited flash photography which is smart. It's rude and intrusive.
Myles of TangoBliss did take some (without flash) - here are his links ::
Saturday Afternoon Alt Milonga Set
Saturday Evening Milonga Set
Myles will also be posting some video - here is his YouTube channel link ::

I have also emailed Angel to see if the official photos from the festival slide show will be available. I will post that link as well when it becomes available.

Houston Tango Festival - A photo

I found this on http://blogs.chron.com/aboutchron/
See full article at chron.com
Apparently the photographer is Mayra Beltran of the Houston Chronicle Newspaper.
The pianist is Glover Gill of Glover Tango. He also collaborates with Tosca String Quartet of Austin and does a regular Thursday night live gig/milonga at Lambert's Restaurant in Austin. And, he is a damned good composer and accordianist as well. I can't say enough good things about this guy.
Anyone care to ID the dancers?

Tanguera Worship

un besito por la pantorrilla de una potranca rusa...at the milonga last night at the Masonic Temple in Glenwood Springs, Colorado...and sadly, very possibly my last milonga here...as I will be moving away from Aspen in the coming weeks...to the Georgia countryside...
It was a very small milonga, coinciding with a Saturday workshop by visiting Denver milonguero Tom Stermitz. There were only about eight of us all together. Essentially it was a small private milonga/party. We were gathered around one of the tables, with all the food arranged in the center, drinking wine and socializing - it felt just like a Buenos Aires milonga. They are all my closest friends in Aspen...and I will miss them...truly...
Note that I am copying the birthday card I uploaded a week or so ago. Photo of me and Tatyana by my friend Bob...
