A cry for help :: Blogicide

I almost did the unthinkable last night.

I was going to "make my blog private", or even worse, totally and unilaterally and irreversably "delete" my blog.

Help me.

Alex, you did the right thing to write to your loyal fans. Take a deep breath, count to 100 if necessary. STEP AWAY FROM THE DELETE KEY!
It'll all be better and more clear tomorrow.
Keep the faith!

Why did you want to do that?

I don't see why you would do such a thing. I really enjoy reading your blog - usually for the tango, but I've enjoyed many of your other topics such as those on environmental concerns. Keep it up and don't give in!

Why? is there anybody who doesn't like it? Does it upset people? Are you bored with it?

Dear Alex, No one can decide what you do with your blog but you.

But if you derive great joy, relief, inspiration, or an outlet for so many things while you write, then stay the course. If there is no such reward, lay low for a while before you decide to [shudder] delete it.

I have never understood the "going private" route.

You are such a talented writer Alex! When you describe a feeling, a passion, or a moment...or just a day with your dad, I feel like I am part of it! I see the colors and textures, I am there. You have the ability to put into words and take me with you. That is a gift!

Your Tango blogs inspire me and I learn so much...I can't imagine why would you want to stop.

I do understand the feeling as sometimes when I am painting, and I can't get the color or the value or a likeness just right, I want to take my biggest brush and destroy something that eventually brings me, and hopefully someone else pleasure.

I suppose if it becomes a chore, the pleasure is gone...but I hope you reclaim the joy & release that you must have once felt in writing your blogs.

You would be missed!

Geez...what some guys will do to get a compliment!lol

hmmm....of course i'm curious why ~ and would respect any decision you made. but if your issue with this blog is not about the effort it takes to maintain, then you could also contemplate having a second blog that's super secret private ~ where you can really explode if you want to and not worry about who is reading it.
and just in case it's something worse ~ my hand is reaching out to yours.....in whatever capacity you need it.

You said it: "unthinkable".

Been there (deleted my blog entries from March till Oct. last year) done it (my blog is private now).

There are different reasons why one might do such a thing. But do it as what your heart tells you to do. And do it without regrets. It is what makes you happy and comfortable that counts. No other reason matters.

Don't do it, Alex!

Hey Alex,

everything is pretty much said :-) I can only add that doing so would change your writing style and way of writing. Instead of deleting or making it private why not create a private one for the stuff you don't feel comfortable in public? After some months look at what you have written in the public and the private one and see if you drop one or keep both...

Thanks for all the kind words and concern. I will address what I was feeling in another post. It all stemmed from the "why do I blog?" thread that has been around for several weeks now.
