I'm sorry?

Dating Ads

This shit chaps my ass..."not" online dating? Then what the fuck is it? If you meet someone through a website, even when/if you eventually meet them in person, then it IS, MOST DEFINITELY, on line fucking dating. Dating, that is, not fucking. I meant to say "fucking dating", not "dating and fucking". What are these assholes thinking? It's probably some dickweed 19 year old geek/putz who started an internet dating website with daddy's money. Now he's making $8 million a year. Okay, maybe not $8 million a year, probably more like $50k a month.

And then the other one..."over 40 and still single?" Inferred: "what's your fucking problem, dude?" "Click here and see if you can find a 20 year old nymphette (like one pictured) who will date you...but let's see your money first..."

Alex, you're spending too much time on social networking sites. *laugh*

Not all men are as charming and handsome as you, Alex. And may need to pay to find a companion...

Although we all pay, one way or another :-)

Well thank you Johanna, but you haven't met me yet. I could just be another "asshole masquerading as a nice guy". (big grin)

I don't have a problem with the concept of online dating, and think used carefully, it can be "a good thing". I have been a member of Match.com, LavaLife.com and Nerve(personals).com in the past.

It's the patronizing tone and imagery of the ads that I take exception to - as if all men are morons.

Well, come to think of it, I guess we are...

I'd be curious to know the effect of this advertising, if they see a spike in sign-ups after running the ads, or if it's a fairly constant level of new members.

That "tone" is just an advertising tactic, Alex. Just like "do your armpits stink?" is for deodorants, etc.

We are a fear-based society, and advertising messages reflect that. Even in the pursuit of love.
